Constitutional Amendment: ACA 9: Superintendent of Public Instruction: Gubernatorial Appointment
Author(s): Assembly Member McCarty
Position: Not Currently in Active Opposition โ Continuing to Monitor
Current Status: Assembly Committees on Education and Elections
| This Constitutional amendment, introduced in 2023, would change the election of the Superintendent of Public Instruction from being elected by the voters to being appointed by the Governor. The election date would be changed from 2026 to a 2027 appointment date. This would significantly increase the amount of control the government has over the education system. Family Protection Ministries was in attendance at the committee hearing when the hearing was canceled by the author. However, it is still an active bill and could be brought back up for discussion. |
