Bill: AB 2998:ย Opioid Overdose Reversal Medications: Pupil Administration
Author(s): Assembly Member McKinnor
Position: Watching For Further Amendments
Current Status: at Governorโs Desk
| Family Protection Ministries is no longer concerned about AB 2998. However, when this bill was first introduced the bill language was very vague and would have allowed any minor to consent to carry and administer opioid reversal drugs with or without parental supervision. This bill threatened parental rights. Aware of the danger, FPM immediately began working on opposition letters. Much to our relief, the day before we delivered the opposition letters, this bill was gutted-and-amended. It was re-written to prohibit school districts from prohibiting students from carrying opioid reversal drugs and to protect students who properly administer these drugs on school-sites from prosecution. Then, this bill was ordered to be placed on the Senate Consent Calendar, meaning the bill had no opposition votes. This bill was passed by both the Senate and the Assembly and is currently at the Governorโs desk! |
