Bill: AB 1851: Schoolsites: Lead Testing Pilot Program
Author(s): Assembly Member Holden
Position: Not Currently in Active Opposition โ Continuing to Monitor
Current Status: Senate Appropriations Committee โ Held Under Submission
| Assembly Bill 1851 requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to establish a pilot program that tests for lead in drinking water systems of 6-10 selected local educational facilities. If the results exceed a certain number of particles in the water, then the agencies are required to notify parents and take action to provide a safe drinking water source for pupils. Last year, AB 249 would have required single-family private home schools to be inspected for lead in drinking water and to pay for any required expenses, including re-piping the house. The author accepted FPMโs amendments, and thus, exempted home schools from these requirements. This year, the author of AB 1851 has agreed to keep private home schools out of this bill for the time being. Family Protection Ministries has been granted the opportunity to participate in the discussions of how the bill may be implemented in the future. This bill is currently being held under submission in the Committee of Appropriations for further consideration. |
