In today’s episode, Nathan gives updates on the current positions of three major bills: AB 727, AB 84, and AB 495. Then he mentions specific ways you can get involved in helping oppose these bills. Additionally, he invites you to come to Homeschool Freedom Day in San Diego, where you will be equipped with helpful resources for how to get involved.
- AB 727 was a bill that would have required every student ID card, k-12, universities and colleges, public and private to include a counseling service hotline run by the Trevor Project, an LGBT run group. Their goal was to be able to offer gender counseling to all students. Two amendments were made- the first exempting out all private k-12 schools, and the second exempting out private colleges and universities. This bill does still apply to all public schools, meaning it is still a threat to our culture in California. Nathan advises to call your legislator and ask them to oppose this bill, as it is a threat we need to oppose.
- AB 84 is a bill that will regulate charter schools more. There is more information listed on our website. This bill, like AB 727, is also listed the Senate Appropriations Committee suspense file, meaning it could come out at any time. This bill includes a range of ways to regulate charter schools, although FPM does not get involved in.
- And finally there is AB 495, there is also more information listed about this on our website. This bill is on the suspense file in the Senate Appropriations Committee. You are able to call your state senator about all of these bills, tell them to vote no on all of them.
