Dear Family Protection Ministry Partners and Supporters,

As we enter the month of November and season of Thanksgiving, let us remember to be thankful for what the Lord has done and continues to do. God has called us to โ€œgive thanks in all circumstances.โ€

We have been blessed to live in the United States of America where many freedoms still exist. The painting by Norman Rockwell featured above was inspired by FDRโ€™s Four Freedoms speech and helped to boost American patriotism during WWII. Even today, we can appreciate this mindset that in the U.S: โ€œFreedom From Wantโ€ is still โ€œOurs to fight for!โ€

Now that election day has passed, many of us hoped we could focus on other matters. While the election brought both successes to celebrate and disappointments to process, we are now facing a new challenge. Governor Newsom has announced a special session of the California State Legislature to address what he calls “Trump-proofing” California. This has drawn criticism from conservatives who believe the Governor is out of touch with Californians.

Please pray for wisdom for our Governor and all our legislators as they face important decisions in the days and weeks ahead.

โ€œThe LORD is in his holy temple; the LORDโ€™s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of manโ€ (Psalm 11:4).

Inspirational Speaker & Homeschool Advocate

WHEN GOD SAYS NO

When Joe and I were a young couple with two little boys, ages two and four, we set out on a journey to leave our very tiny starter home and find a house with a little more space. Friends of ours decided to sell their home which we knew would be perfect for usโ€”it was the right size, in our price range, near our church, and in a good school district. (This was 1982 and I had never heard of homeschooling.)
In the end, our friends decided to rent rather than sell. I prayed about it and asked them several times, annoyingly so, to change their minds. The answer remained no. We eventually found another home, but I inwardly continued to think that the first house would have been better for us.

Fast forward two years โ€ฆ God called us to homeschool, and our school district wasvery hostile, denying our application to homeschool. Our situation escalated to the point of my being threatened with jail by our state superintendent of education. Through Godโ€™s sweet providence I didnโ€™t go to jail, and we were eventually approved to homeschoolโ€”but the drama of the approval process set the stage for quite a stressful year.

Many days a policeman drove by our house, which was located in a small, quiet, cul-de-sac neighborhoodโ€”presumably ensuring that we were home and the children were inside during school hours. One day as I watched the policeman peruse our home yet again, I had a profound realization. The house I had wanted so badly and prayed for so fervently two years prior was located right across the street from the administrative offices of our public school district.
If we had moved there, someone in those offices could have scrutinized our home every minute of every day โ€”seeing if our car was in the driveway or the kids were out playing during the day. This would have added a whole new layer of misery to our already stressful year.

In tears I thanked God that He had said โ€œnoโ€ to my prayers and pleading for that house. And then I realized that He had been actively protecting and providing for our homeschool journey years before it even began.

Have you been praying faithfully for something that has yet to work out? Has God told you โ€œnoโ€ to a request that you believe is good for your family or your homeschool? Rest assured that God is a strong advocate for your family and for your homeschooling, even when He says โ€œnoโ€ or โ€œwaitโ€ when you pray. As my pastor used to say, โ€œGod always says โ€˜yesโ€™ to the person, even if He says โ€˜noโ€™ or โ€˜not nowโ€™ to a particular request.โ€ He is always good.

Forty years later I still remember the lessons God taught me through telling me โ€œnoโ€ to something I believed to be good. He taught me the importance of trustโ€”to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7, ESV). He demonstrated that He goes before us, to make the rough places smooth and that His plans are always redemptive. And I learned that He is constantly holding us by His victorious right hand. I had no idea then how much I would need to draw on those lessons in the coming decade as our family faced challenging legal and legislative battles in the quest for homeschool freedom. And I am still drawing on them today.

โ€œAnd we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.โ€ Romans 8:28, Amplified Bible

โ€œFear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.โ€ Isaiah 41:10

Praying for What God Can Do!

Updated Website Coming Soon!

We are currently working on updating our website! Please be praying that the transition goes smoothly, and we are able to finish it soon before the busyness of a new legislative session. Pray for endurance and perseverance through this process.

Homeschool Defender Webinar

Coming up in November, FPM will be hosting the Homeschool Defender Webinar. This dynamic, live event will teach simple methods people can use to make a big impact for the future of private home education in California. Please pray that people would register for this online event, and that they would be inspired to take action by dropping off a Homeschool Information Packet at the local office of their California legislator.

Capitol Day 2025

Please be in prayer for our Capitol Day 2025! This event is especially vital for the many new legislators and their new aides who have not yet become familiar with private home education. In fact, a significant number of the legislators and their aides have no idea how private homeschooling works, either practically or legally, or that there are homeschoolers in their districts. Please pray that the Lord will work in the legislator’s hearts as we make an effort to leave an impact and preserve our freedoms through this event.

Thank you for praying for FPM.

Question About Calling Your Legislator or the Governor’s Office:

What If I am asked for my name and phone number?

If you call as an individual and are asked for your name and phone number, please consider providing them so that your call for or against the proposal will be tallied. The practice of gathering this kind of information is often used to gain an idea of the extent of support and opposition. This information has never been used by legislators to track down people who oppose or support any legislation.

Did you call your legislator in response to an Action Alert? Please complete the “Action Alert Response Form” below.
