About Our Organization
Since 1986, Family Protection Ministries (FPM) has worked to defend parents’ freedom to educate and care for their children privately, without governmental interference. We monitor California legislation affecting private home education and advocate for parental authority and educational choice.
Internship Overview
We are seeking a creative and motivated college student to help communicate our mission through graphic design and social media. This is an opportunity to develop practical communications skills, create content for real audiences, and help families and the public understand issues affecting private home education in California.
The intern will collaborate with staff to develop engaging visual materials, share organizational updates, and support digital outreach initiatives.
FPM’s internship program involves more than learning practical job skills. Our approach combines three essential elements: Training, Education, and Implementation. Interns develop practical design and communications skills while deepening their understanding of FPM’s mission and the principles that guide our work. Through assigned reading and study guide questions, interns strengthen their critical-thinking skills, develop discernment, and learn to evaluate ideas and their implications through a Biblical worldview. They then apply what they learn by creating thoughtful, engaging communications that support FPM’s mission.
What You’ll Do
- Create graphics for social media, newsletters, presentations, and other digital communications.
- Help draft, schedule, and publish social media posts.
- Assist with visual storytelling and campaign materials.
- Help maintain a consistent organizational voice and visual identity.
- Research timely topics and content opportunities relevant to our mission.
- Proofread captions and graphics for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assist with content calendars and basic social media analytics.
- Complete assigned reading from several books and respond to accompanying study guide questions designed to develop critical thinking, discernment, and Biblical worldview.
- Learn about FPM’s mission, foundational principles, and the issues affecting parental rights and private home education.
- Apply learning to communications projects by considering how content accurately and effectively conveys FPM’s mission and principles to the public.
Responsibilities may be tailored to the intern’s strengths, interests, and learning objectives.
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience in nonprofit communications and digital advocacy.
- Practical skills in graphic design, copywriting, and social media strategy.
- Portfolio-ready work, subject to publication and confidentiality requirements.
- Experience communicating complex policy issues to general audiences.
- Feedback and mentorship from staff.
- The opportunity to use your creativity in support of parental rights and educational freedom.
Successful interns may also receive a letter of recommendation.
