Bill: AB 281: Comprehensive sexual health education and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention education: outside consultants.
Author(s): Assembly Member Gallagher
Position: Support
Current Status: Assembly Third Reading File
Action: None Currently Needed
Summary:
This bill has been amended to only make one change so now the only thing it does is that the bill clarifies that guest speakers and outside consultants must both be identified in the required parent notification if they are involved in delivering comprehensive sexual health education or HIV prevention education.ย The law already required schools to notify parents if guest speakers were used. Now the notice must also include the name and affiliation of any outside consultant, not just guest speakers. The bill clarifies that guest speakers and outside consultants must both be identified in the required parent notification if they are involved in delivering comprehensive sexual health education or HIV prevention education.
Concerns:
This is a common sense bill for public schools only, but we are watching it to ensure it does not get amended to negatively impact families in public or private schools.ย
