The California Legislature Has Started the 2021-2022 Legislative Session.

New proposed legislation is now beginning to stream into our state capitol in Sacramento. This new 2-year legislative session for California begins today, Monday, December 7th.

Family Protection Ministries (FPM), in partnership with Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA), is daily monitoring every piece of legislation introduced or amended throughout this 2021-2022 two-year session, as we have done in the past. We identify and respond to any legislation that could affect private homeschooling or any associated parental rights.

We at FPM are greatly blessed to have the outstanding expertise of Mike Smith and his team of attorneys at HSLDA in providing detailed legal analysis of every bill that we have identified as potentially threatening to private home education. After we (FPM and HSLDA) determine together the best strategic responses, we go into direct action and, as needed, we contact you for your crucial help in contacting your elected legislators in Sacramento.

Please pray that we find everything we need to find in these new bills and that our assessments of them are accurate. We will need to plan out strategy for working on each bill and prioritize each one as well. Please pray for wisdom for this work. Relationships are key in working on legislation, so please also pray for our relationships with legislators and staffers working in the Capitol.

Although the growing liberal control in California can be discouraging and challenging, we are trusting that God will bless your prayers and support of our teamwork efforts to defend our home education freedoms from all attacks.

We are blessed to be able to continue our work in partnership with HSLDA and good people like you, as well as with CHEA (as their Legislative Consultant), and many other organizations and groups. God has blessed us beyond measure by giving us success in protecting private home education from unnecessary government intrusion here in California for more than three decades. We greatly appreciate the support of each of you through your vigilance, prayers, financial support, and contacting legislators (whenever we send out a Legislative Action Alert).

We continue to be firmly committed to working hard to preserve our God-given freedoms!

As evidenced by recent attacks from Harvard Professor Elizabeth Bartholet and the media, the right to homeschool privately is a fragile thing in California and across the nation. Ignoring a wide range of sound research, some have complained that homeschooled students are lacking in good academic and life skills. There are those calling for new legislation to increase the regulation and accountability to public school officials.

Since the end of the last legislative session, and through the election season, we have been working on monitoring California legislators for any agenda or legislative announcements as well as preparing for this new legislative session. We must remain vigilant to guard the freedoms which God has entrusted to us.
