Please read the following message below from Mike Smith of HSLDA.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Homeschoolers filing private school affidavits received a surprising email Tuesday from the California Department of Education.

DON’T BE ALARMED.

The CDE is informing all affidavit filers of some technical revisions for filing the private school affidavit. The content of the affidavit has not been changed.

The CDE has also, or will soon, clarify the use of the term “application” in the original email and the instructions for filing the affidavit. We were concerned that the word “application” could imply that the CDE was asserting authority to approve the filing of the affidavit. The CDE did not intend that meaning of the word. We thank the CDE staff for their willingness to quickly address this issue.

And the filing period is still October 1–15.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office. Thanks again for your support of HSLDA as we partner together to preserve and advance your right to homeschool.

FPM continues to closely monitor and work on any legislation that could impact homeschool families and will deal with individual legislative proposals as they are introduced. CHEA will continue to inform, support and encourage their members both directly as well as through their vital Support Network regarding the above issue. HSLDA will continue dealing with the legal issues of proposed legislation and helping all of us understand the effects on homeschooling and homeschool families.
