JOINT LEGISLATIVE Newsflash – June 30, 2015
From:  Roy Hanson — Family Protection Ministries and Mike Smith — HSLDA

SB 277 (Pan and Allen) – Eliminates the personal beliefs exemption to required vaccinations

SB 277 passed the Legislature yesterday (Monday) and was signed by the Governor this morning (Tuesday). This left opponents no reasonable opportunity to express their opposition to the Governor. This is a Disappointing Defeat for parental rights.

Thankfully, on the positive side, private homeschoolers are protected from the effects of this bill. Amendment language was added to SB 277 this spring excluding pupils enrolled in home-based private schools from the vaccination requirements. This language remained in the final version of the bill that the Governor signed.

Thank you to everyone who tirelessly made calls and wrote letters in opposition to this bill. We also thank the many other organizations that actively opposed SB 277.

This new law does not go into effect until July 1, 2016 – the 2016-2017 school year.

The current law remains in effect for this upcoming 2015-2016 school year.

We will be researching and providing information on how this new law (which goes into affect next year) will affect private homeschoolers.
